Remember Cannes 2012 for Kristen’s and Rob’s Professional Success

Wow, the past few days have been very exciting to virtually experience both Kristen’s and Rob’s success at Cannes and the ground they are taking in each of their professional careers.

As supportive as they’ve been to each other, I really want to honor the hard work these two amazing actors have put into their roles and craft to earn the critical acclaim they are currently receiving and will continually receive throughout other projects they each choose to do in the years to come. It’s been beautiful to witness the positive responses from so many people about their performances and their movies, and I’m grateful that their moments of achievement and acknowledgment were shared with all of us. It’s always great to see people succeed at what they care so much about and what they work so hard at and for…

..Which leads me to mention this…

I’d like to think that the joy and excitement for everyone about Cannes this year is mainly due to Rob’s and Kristen’s professional careers and success versus the seemingly quiet “confirmation” of their personal relationship with each other.

Cannes was about Kristen’s work in “On the Road” and Rob’s work in “Cosmopolis” and as I understand it, it is also about them continuing to be seen as respectable, serious and professional actors within the film industry, especially among their respected peers.

Cannes 2012 is an important event for Kristen’s and Rob’s professional careers. Cannes 2012 was not the “Robsten” coming out party. Let’s try to be mindful of that.

Focusing on their personal relationship trivializes their heartfelt and well-deserved success this week. Let’s not do that.

(Especially since it’s not our business and also, especially if the motivation behind the celebration was due to being right and proving some other people wrong.)

Maybe this speaks highly about how far we’ve come, because I can’t support the power of women without people asking me why must I refer to it as ‘girl power’, you know what I mean? Maybe it’s because I’m young and I see the industry in a different way. Yes, there’s more roles for men, but there’s more roles for women now than there were in previous decades. It’s important to me to talk about the womanhood of my characters, instead of trying to be like a man, which is what studios tend to prefer. I think there’s always been amazing stories about women, and there will always be more. Ladies have to keep fighting, but it’s going to be easier than it was before. And if you want something that sounds impossible, I say do it. Go make a movie. If you don’t have what you want you can’t go through life blaming people. Grab your iPhone and make a movie, make it happen. It sounds simplistic, but you have to pave your own way and never blaming others.

About

~RESPECT~ This campaign started with the idea of supporting Kristen Stewart's and Robert Pattinson's peace. Not only are they the focus of this initiative, but other celebrities are included in this peace movement as well. We believe that the constant and invasive paparazzi pictures are NOT “part of the deal” and we’re done on seeing them and other celebrities/public figures upset. We’ve also had enough of the press, media, etc. taking things Kristen and Robert say out of complete context and twisting it to fit their “story” of them. It’s disgusting and WE’RE STANDING UP! Follow us at @Peace4Stew and @Peace4Rob! This is a movement in the making. :)
